The sharp demarcation line with the extent of Thursday's eruption is with the new grey ash clearly evident against the red "oxidised" older surface. The remnant building is the old sulphur factory that had a checked history. Attempts were made in the mid 1880s, 1898-1901 and 1913-1914 to mine sulphur even after being destroyed by eruptions on several occassions. The sulphur "factory" was finally abandoned in September 1914.
