As one would expect for a 30 plus metre thick accumalation of basalt, the dimensions of the flow would exceed the channel and also overtop the river banks. Here the flow has flowed across the river bank, which was a very stable enviroment, such that a well developed soil was developed. You can sse the baking effects on the soil below the basalt, and the base unit is weathered granite. |
