The lowest level of the quarry exposes the old Macqarie River sediments.

This "hole" was dug following my advice. The mine manager, a mining engineer, had no idea of the geology of the mine, and one time when I arrived this area was under water. The water was an issue for the progress of the quarry.

They had not excavated to the bottom of the flow as they stopped when the rock was becoming badly altered, as it does on the base of a flow. I advised them of the old river sediments beneath the flow and that if they excavated to them it was likley that the water would drain through the river sediments as they were porous and in an old channel, and it would drain, filtered, into the Macquarie River. As you can see no water, one up for the geologist!.
